ACTIVITIES
Energy Thursdays
The main component of the Energy Club education program revolves around “Energy Thursdays”. The club meets biweekly over lunch to hear speakers on a variety of topics within the industry and have the chance to ask questions and learn. Speakers include policy experts and senior executives from the industry. Past topics include “Private Equity in Oil & Gas”, “Project Finance in Renewable Energy”, “Energy Storage”, “Nuclear Energy 101”, “Cleantech VC”, and more. Aside from gaining the chance to learn about different facets of the energy industry, Thursday lunches are a great chance to meet and network with fellow students and speakers.
Energy Conference
The Energy Conference is one of the highlights of the club experience, and a great chance to both learn about the industry and network with alumni and executives. Please see the conference website for more information.
Treks
Each year students organize and attend treks to visit companies within a certain segment of the energy industry. These treks provide an excellent networking opportunity for both students and companies. Past treks include clean energy infrastructure in NYC, oil & gas banking in Houston, cleantech in San Francisco, and energy in emerging markets in Mexico City.
Competition
The Wharton Energy Club actively seeks out opportunities for its members to compete against other schools in energy-focused events. In 2017, we sent individuals or teams to compete in different case competitions. 2017 highlights included first-place finishes at the Duke Fuqua School of Business Energy in Emerging Markets Case Competition and Tesla MBA Case Competition at Tuck.
Field Trips
Field trips and day trips to sites of interest are also organized by students throughout the year. This includes visits to thermal power projects, renewable projects (e.g., solar, wind, and LFGE), and power interconnections (e.g., PJM Interconnection).
